The coal deposits found in the three regions mentioned below are generally classified as bituminous coal, suitable for a range of industrial and energy applications.

  • Muhepai Coal Basin:
    The coal in this region is typically characterized by high-grade low-sulphur bituminous coal with high calorific value and optimal combustion characteristics, making it suitable for industrial heating and energy generation.
  • Ludewa Coal Basin:
    The Ludewa deposits are known for premium-quality, low-sulphur bituminous coal featuring high energy content and efficient combustion properties, supporting broader applications including cement production, manufacturing, and thermal energy generation.
  • Songwe-Kiwira Coal Basin:
    Located in Kyela District, Mbeya Region, the deposits are characterized by high-grade low-sulphur bituminous coal with high calorific value and optimal combustion characteristics, suitable for power generation and industrial use.
